Copenhagen and Katowice plane route

Case study - matchmaking platform for sustainable businesses.

The fact that our office in Katowice is just 2h away from Copenhagen was one of the major reasons why Niels Rune Bøggild, Valified’s CTO decided to chose us to develop their web-based fin-tech platform.

Our job was to create a platform connecting investors and people with great ideas. Rune, who is an experienced IT manager with 20+ years of experience in IT project management, visited us every second week to share his feedback, plan ahead and build stronger ties between our companies. This allowed us to apply a unique way of remote cooperation. If you want to understand a little bit better what was behind Rune’s decision, please listen to the interview.

So you are probably planning to start a new software development project, right? Or maybe you already have an ongoing one?

There are several options if you want to start a new software project or optimize an existing one. You can hire a local freelancer. You can hire a “farshore” company from Asia or even buy an existing app and rebrand it. However, in our opinion, there are three other options we could recommend to consider: your in-house team, local development agency and nearshore software development agency. Each of these has both pros and cons and the table below shows the comparison:

INHOUSE TEAM

The simplest solution is when you can decide to run the project with the inhouse team (existing or to-be-hired). The biggest advantage of this solution is the highest security in terms of I.P. but it comes with a very high overall cost. We recommend it for bigger companies and organizations like banks, governments, etc.

INHOUSE TEAM

PROS

  • Keeping knowledge inside a company
  • Very close collaboration between the development and the business team
  • Working in the native language
  • Best control over development team

INHOUSE TEAM

CONS

  • Requires establishing the whole development department with its risks and costs
  • Additional time/money cost of recruitment (it’s exhausting.. trust us)
  • Overall cost, including time, recruitment and risks, is very high
  • You need to think what happens with the team when the project is over or requires a smaller involvement

NEARSHORE SOFTWARE HOUSE
(LIKE REVOLVE)

Usually IT project managers are under time and cost pressure. Working with a nearshore company is usually a cost- efficient solution. So if you are looking for a good value for money, English is not a problem and you don’t mind flying from time to time, it’s probably the best option for you.

NEARSHORE SOFTWARE HOUSE
(LIKE REVOLVE)

PROS

  • Using external knowledge and talent pool
  • Lower cost of development
  • Similar travel time distance to a local software house (providing good flights connection in place)

NEARSHORE SOFTWARE HOUSE
(LIKE REVOLVE)

CONS

  • Working in the English language
  • Requires remote cooperation which can be challenging without experience
  • Requires trust, proper communication and appropriate way of working

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

It’s always nice to have a good development agency as your neighbour. Using your native language in daily routine is nice too. But it’s not always that simple… Working with an external partner requires making sure you are a good fit. Good communication and efficient working process in place is crucial. Sometimes travel time distance can be very high.

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

PROS

  • Working in the native language
  • External knowledge and talent pool
  • Small distance

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

CONS

  • Very high development cost
  • Requires remote cooperation which can be challenging without experience
